As a not-for-profit cooperative, Fairfield Electric Cooperative’s primary mission is to provide safe and reliable power at the lowest possible price.  Our staff works diligently to cut unnecessary costs, make smart business decisions and keep electric rates stable, but unfortunately not everything is within our control.

Over the past five years, Fairfield Electric Cooperative has seen the price of critical materials, equipment and supplies double. Wholesale power costs have also risen dramatically.

The cooperative has avoided an electric rate change, but the significant costs increases are beyond our ability to control and absorb. To continue delivering essential services while accounting for the rising costs in our industry, a rate change will take effect in September 2025.

For the residential rate, the basic facilities charge will go from $14 per month to $19 per month.  The facility charge covers the fixed cost associated with providing electricity to a member’s meter which includes equipment, materials, insurance, property tax, and other operating costs necessary to serve each meter in the service territory regardless of the amount of energy used.

The specific impact for each member will vary depending on the home’s energy use. The average residential member will see an increase of 7%. For example, an energy bill for 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will see an increase of roughly $10.

As an example, the average cost for 1,000 kWh this past year was $146.57. The cost for 1,000 kWh in September will be $156.25.

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this change together. Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep electric costs to a minimum and provide the highest quality service to our members.  We are here to answer any questions or concerns you may have by calling (803)-754-0153.  Thank you for being a valued member of Fairfield Electric Cooperative.
