Two Fairfield Electric Cooperative members won prizes for the Fall Beat the Peak Contest. Jacquelyn Chatman is the $500 gift card grand prize winner amongst participants in the state, while Kimberly Murphy is the $100 gift card winner of the Fairfield Electric participants. The contest ended on December 15.

Jacquelyn, a Winnsboro native, was so happy when she learned she had won the grand prize.

“We are so glad we signed up.” Jacquelyn said. “When I get the notifications, I make sure we cut back on our usage to help with the peak.”

The Beat the Peak program is completely voluntary, and the goal of the program is to reduce electricity use during the time of the day when power use peaks, such as summer afternoons when temperatures are at their highest or winter mornings when temperatures are often at their lowest. By signing up to receive alerts during peak-use times of the day, alerts will encourage co-op members to reduce their energy use during these times and even provide helpful tips on reducing high power-use activities. These tips will include adjusting your thermostat by three degrees, turning off lights, delaying the use of major appliances and postponing hot water use.
